Hien Nguyen

I am currently a fourth-year student in Gigi Awad's lab. I graduated from Baylor University's "University Scholars" program in 2012 and initially worked as an EFL instructor in Bangkok, Thailand and then as a forensic case manager in Keller, Texas prior to matriculating into UT Austin's Human Development, Culture, and Learning Sciences (HDCLS) doctoral program. My research interests concern Vietnamese-American immigrant populations, perceived language proficiency, and acculturative stress. I am also interested in this particular community's help-seeking attitudes and mental health outcomes. Currently, I am brainstorming and designing a dissertational project revolving around my research interests. In addition to fastidiously working on research-related endeavors, I also immensely enjoy creative writing, engaging in and learning more about sociopolitical activism, and exploring the beautiful city of Austin.
