Elysia Sotiriou

Elysia is beginning her fourth year in the Counseling Psychology doctoral program at the University of Texas at Austin. Her degree will include an emphasis in Integrative Health and a Master’s focus in Quantitative Methods. Elysia graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, and French. Throughout her training, Elysia has had the opportunity to lead therapeutic groups with a focus of teaching body acceptance and cognitive dissonance for women diagnosed with clinical and subthreshold eating disorder pathology, Dialectical Behavioral distress tolerance, Mindfulness practice, resiliency training, and social skill development for children. Elysia’s current research involves a few projects: 1) Exploring  the impact of culture on body image and eating disorder risk, 2) developing culturally inclusive measures to capture the body-related concerns of ethnic minorities, and 3) expanding efficacious body image interventions to benefit underserved populations.
